Southern University, North Carolina A&T and Jackson State baseball programs are again receiving votes in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Associations (NCBWA) NCAA Division I Top 30 Poll. All three teams have made multiple appearances this season in the poll. This comes as the teams are preparing for their respective conference tournaments which start the week.
Southern, which won its SWAC Western Division title with a 18-6 conference record (28-21 overall) and sit as the top seed in the field, will play the #4 seed Arkansas Pine Bluff May 15 as the fourth game of the day. The Jaguars accomplished a rare feat this season going from worst last year to first this season.
Jackson State, 15-9 in SWAC and 30-22 overall, earned the No. 2 seed out of the Eastern Division. Head coach Omar Johnson collected his twelfth 30 win season, improving his overall totals to 437-281 and conference totals to 214-99. The 2019 season also marks Jackson’s eight straight thirty plus wins.
North Carolina A&T State claimed the top spot in the MEAC South finishing at 16-8 in conference play. In its last series of the season, the Aggies took two out of three games from divisional runner-up Florida A&M last weekend. At 28-22 overall, NCA&T earned the top seed and will take on the Coppin State/Savannah State winner.
