Alabama State, Jackson State and North Carolina Central are among the teams receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Top 30 Poll as announced by the publication. This is the first time in history that three Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Baseball programs have garnered votes at the same time at any national level.
Both Alabama State and Jackson State, two teams from the East Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) are listed in the poll along with North Carolina Central from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
Alabama State went 3-1 this past week and swept division rival Alcorn State over the weekend with a 12-0 no-hitter decision. The Hornets overall record is 8-4.
Jackson State was a perfect 4-0 this week, with an impressive midweek win against Louisiana Monroe and a three-game sweep of division foe Alabama A&M in SWAC Conference action. The Tigers ballclub raised its record to 7-2.
North Carolina Central finished the week going 4-1, including a sweep of Iona College over weekend. The Eagles of NCCU have built a record of 9-3 so far.
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Poll is released Monday afternoon during the entire collegiate baseball season. The poll only considered games played during mid-week through Sunday.
Jackson State University also received votes in the NCBWA Top 30 poll during the 2017 season.
The 2018 poll voters come from 35 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation.
