The Talladega College baseball team bats continued to be hot and produced a 12-2 win over the Fisher College Falcons Tuesday afternoon. Dega’s offense had 12 hits, drew five walks, and four hit-by-pitches.
Despite the offensive explosion from the Tornadoes, Fisher (4-5) scored first in the top of the second when Michael Stellato scored or a fielding error.
Talladega (10-8-1) answered in the bottom of the second with a solo homer from Rafael Diaz. The Tornadoes added two more runs in the third courtesy of an RBI single to center by Wander Arias to drive in Juan Gonzalez. Miguel Oropeza hit a single to third for RBI as Darlin Fernandez touched home. Oropeza added another RBI in the fifth with a double to right field to drive in Fernandez for a second time to put the Tornadoes up 4-1.
The Dega bats came to life significantly in the sixth, starting with a single from Andres Puello, which allowed Issac Guzman to score. Arias followed with a bases-clearing triple as Fernandez, Puello, and Gonzalez all scored on the play. Jose Santiago knocked a two-RBI single to center field as Oropeza and Arias crossed home. The final two runs both came on bases-loaded walks as a Gonzalez walk allowed Santiago to score, and a walk issued to Fernandez let Jahir Cruz cap the Talladega scoring and move the tally to 12-1.
Fisher added a run in the seventh off a single from Ivanuel Hernandez to right field to bring the score to the final of 12-2.
Arias turned in a quality performance at the plate and went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, a triple, a walk, and a run scored. Oropeza finished 2-for-3 and posted a pair of RBIs, a double, a stolen base, and a run scored.
Winston Garcia (2-0) pitched six solid innings with four strikeouts and only allowed three hits, three walks, and the early run. Niklas Weldon tossed an inning in relief, struck out two batters, and surrendered two hits and an earned run.
