The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has Talladega baseball ranked No. 1 in the NAIA Baseball Bo Chip Power Index, the national office released on Monday. The Bo Chip Power Index awards teams points based on its wins and losses, record of opponent and division, affiliation of opponent and strength of schedule.
Talladega is the highest ranked team from HBCU Baseball in the power index with a score of 4.375 which ranks them 34th overall in the Bo Chip nationally but they sit at the top spot, with the toughest strength of schedule in the NAIA. Talladega (9-10, 3-0 in A.I.I.) for the season.
Boyd Nation, highly regarded in the college baseball analytics community for his algorithm development also has Talladega ranked No. 1 in his Strength of Schedule ratings and ranked 25th in his NAIA Iterative Strength Ratings.
Talladega, year after year, plays one of HBCU small schools’ toughest non conference schedules. Since the start of the 2019 season, 33 games (15 home, 18 away) against nationally ranked NAIA Top 25 ranked teams including those ranked in the NCAA Division II and HBCU Baseball Top Ten.
The NAIA uses the Bo Chip Index to help rank teams during the regular season. The NAIA Baseball National Selection Committee (NSC) uses the Bo Chip Power Index to assist in the selection of all at-large teams in the NAIA Baseball National Championship.
The NSC consists of one representative from each geographic area, a representative from the National Administrative Council (NAC) Rules and Ratings Committee, the president of the NAIA-Baseball Coaches Association and three at-large members.
