Talladega starter Samuel Guadamuz threw a complete game shutout allowing just two hits over seven innings on the hill while striking out 11 hitters in the Talladega Tornadoes game two win over NAIA’s No. 10 ranked Faulkner by the score of 2-0.
The win was Talladega’s fifth time this season defeating a ranked Top 25 non-conference opponent. The win came after a 11-5 losing effort in game one of a three-game series at Faulkner University.
In the win, Dalin Fernandez was 1-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, Miguel Oropeza 1-for-2, and Isaac Guzman went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Both Guzman and Oropeza had two stolen bases to help lead the Talladega baseball team to an upset win over Faulkner on Thursday.
Talladega scored the game’s first run in the top of the second inning when Guzman singled up the middle then stole second. He was able to take third when Jesuette Dominguez grounded out to second. Guzman then scored off a wild pitch to make it 1-0. They would add another in the top of the sixth inning off a passed ball for the win.
The Tornadoes’ Guadamuz (W, 5-1) picked up the win with his complete game shutout allowing just two hits over seven innings.
In the game one defeat, Talladega lost 11-5 to Faulkner.
