BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second consecutive week, Alabama State University had a student-athlete earn the Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week award. Freshman P.J. Harris (Frisco, Texas/Frisco) continued the Hornets streak. Prairie View A&M University’s Charles Philpott (Missouri City, Texas/Hightower) and Jackson State University’s Alexander Juday (Ellwood, Ind.) earned co-pitcher of the week honors.
Player of the Week – P.J. Harris (Alabama State)
Harris hit .727 with three doubles, two home runs and five runs and RBI in the first three starts of his career. He had an on-base percentage of .750 and rocked a slugging percentage of 1.545, posting multiple hits in each game. Harris went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI against Auburn.
Co-Pitcher of the Week – Charles Philpott (Prairie View A&M)
Philpott took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before giving up his first base hit in the Panther’s 8-1 win over Our Lady of the Lake (Texas). He struck out six while walking only two batters to finish the week 1-0.
Co-Pitcher of the Week – Alexander Juday (Jackson State)
Juday put in seven innings of relief to help the Tigers to a 9-7 win over Texas Southern. He allowed just three runs on four hits while striking out four batters.
