Stillman College Baseball moved to 7-0 Friday with a 14-1 non-conference win over Oakwood University at Tiger Field. The 7-0 start is the longest active win streak among all HBCU programs, NAIA through NCAA DII. NCAA DI teams begin their seasons this weekend. In those seven games, Stillman has now scored 103 runs.
Sieas Elliot hit 3-for-3 to lead the Tigers, while Griff Minor and Devin Kelly were both a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate.
Elliott singled up the middle to drive in Minor and start a six-run bottom of the first inning for Stillman. Kelvin Reese and Kelly each tripled in the inning.
Stillman added eight runs in the second inning before pumping the breaks the rest of the game. Kelly walked in a run for his second RBI of the game to make it 10-0. In his first start in the lineup this season, Bilal Whittle hit 1-for-3 with a second-inning, three-RBI double. Minor also drove in one in the second.
Oakwood’s lone run came on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.
Reese, Mason Collins, Bryant Rhooms, Justin Cummings, Varrick Lawrence and Jared Hines each had one hit.
Steven Oates (2-0) recorded the win, carrying a two-hit shutout through five innings. He walked four, hit two and struck out five.
Deuntre Dunklin also saw time on the mound, pitching two innings, allowing one run, one hit, one hit batter and striking out one.
Stillman (7-0) continues its non-conference slate against HBCUs on Tuesday, Feb. 21 when it travels to Gresham Park in Atlanta, Georgia to meet Clark Atlanta University (3-5) for a single game at 4 p.m. EST.
