Southern University baseball pitcher Jerry Burkett has signed with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft League.
Burkett will pitch his home games at Eastwood Field, in Niles, Ohio.
Burkett was a mainstay in the bullpen pitching rotation for four seasons. This past season in 20 appearances, 3 saves in 36.1 innings pitched and striking out 43 batters. Burkett’s career stats in 61 appearances, 4 saves, 108.0 innings on the hill and he struck out 98 batters.
According to mlbdraftleague.com, “Draft League participants will receive unprecedented visibility to MLB Club scouts through both in-person observation and state-of-the-art scouting technology, and educational programming designed to prepare them for careers as professional athletes.”
The Draft League, feat collegiate baseball players from NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA, Junior College, and graduating high school seniors, allows top draft prospects to showcase their skills against each other and boost their draft stock.
