Southern University outfielder Tyeler Hawkins has signed a contract with the Frederick Keys of the MLB (Major League Baseball) Draft League. Hawkins will play his home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium based in Frederick, Maryland.
Hawkins, a right fielder from Lexington, KY, finished his collegiate career as one of the top Southwestern Athletic Conference’s best hitters this past season. He completed the 2024 season ranked in the top five in every category in hitting in the conference with a batting average of .396 with 10 home runs, 15 doubles, three triples, and 48 runs batted in. He led the conference in slugging percentage (.660) and on-base plus slugging percentage (1.175).
Hawkins earned post-season recognition being named to the Black College Nines HBCU Large School Post-Season Elite Team.
The MLB Draft League is a six-team baseball league featuring a split-season amateur-professional format. The first half of the MLB Draft League season features draft-eligible players aiming to improve their stock ahead of the annual MLB Draft in July. The league switches to a professional format in the second half, with paid players comprising the six rosters.
