Southern University head baseball coach Chris Crenshaw announced the Jaguars’ 2023 schedule Tuesday, a 53-game slate highlighted by premier early-season contests and 18 home games at Lee-Hines Stadium.

“I feel we have put together a very competitive schedule”, said head coach Chris Crenshaw. “We return some guys who should be able to handle the gauntlet of this schedule, especially all the tough early games.” “We get to branch out and play some teams we wouldn’t normally play.” “We can see how we match up with teams from different areas that play the same, but a different style.” “It’s a tough schedule, but it will get us ready for conference play and the conference schedule that will challenge us, and we are excited for the chance to compete,” said Crenshaw.
The Jaguars competitive schedule includes non-conference road games against No. 1-ranked LSU, No. 22-ranked Mississippi State, No. 34-ranked Houston, Incarnate Word, Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama, Iowa, Pepperdine and home/away series with UNO, McNeese State and Nicholls State.
The Southwestern Athletic Conference schedule runs 24 games over eight weekend series. The Jaguars will play Alcorn State, Texas Southern, Grambling State, Prairie View and University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff at home, and will face Grambling State, Texas Southern, Prairie View, University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Alcorn State on the road.
SU will open up the season on Feb. 17 vs Jackson State at Minute Maid Park for the HBCU Classic, followed by games against Grambling State and Texas Southern. SU will then travel across town for a midweek matchup at Alex Box Stadium when they face #1 LSU on February 21.
Following the midweek matchup, SU will make the trip to New Orleans for the Andre Dawson Classic as they open up against Florida A&M on Friday Feb. 24 followed by matchups versus Alabama State and Alabama A&M Feb. 25-26.
Other highlights include playing at South Alabama Tournament with games against Iowa and Pepperdine in addition to the host team on March. 3-5. Also, travel to San Antonio, TX for a series with Incarnate Word and a midweek matchup with #34 Houston and #22 Mississippi State.
The Jaguars’ first of 18 home games is set for March 1 against McNeese State. The Southwestern Athletic Conference opener will be in Grambling on March 17, and the home SWAC opener against Alcorn State is set for March 31.
