Southern University baseball team knocks off Texas Southern in game one of the weekend series 5-3 in front of 371 fans inside Lee-Hines Stadium on the campus of Southern University.
The Jaguars pull away from the Tigers picking up four runs off solid hitting for 26 minutes in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Jaguars picked up five runs off seven hits on the day. In the third inning O’Neill Burgos single to left field pick up his 16th RBI of the season sending JJ Rollon home to tie the ballgame up 1-1. In the sixth inning Jalon Mack singled through left field sending Burgos across home plate to take a 2-1 lead over TSU. With bases loaded Michael Latulas was walked by the TSU pitcher to send Mack home to increase the Jags lead to 3-1. AJ Walter hit a sac-fly to right field to send Tremaine Spears home to give the Jags another run in the inning. Justin Wiley singled through the left field to send Taj Porter across home plate to give the Jaguars a commanding 5-1 lead over Texas Southern.
Joseph Battaglia goes 3-3 on the season and Enrique Ozoa picks up his second save of the season. The Jaguars scoring came from Burgos, Rollon, Spears, Porter and Mack with one run each.
SU is 7-18, 4-3 SWAC on the season.
