For the second straight week, the Savannah State Tigers are ranked in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) 2024 Top 10 South Region poll. The Tigers are 12-2 on the season and have also been receiving votes in the NCBWA’s national rankings this season.
All indication was that Savannah State was going to be in a rebuilding year, even with a core of returning players and new freshmen that were recruited into the program during fall ball. But the baseball program has proven under head coach Carlton Hardy that they can go out and compete with the best in the nation and win. Right now Savannah State sits among the top teams in the SIAC and has the potential to compete for an NCAA Division II postseason regional spot.
In last week’s NCBWA South Region poll, Savannah State was listed at No. 10. The March 6th poll has the Tigers moving up two spots to No. 8.
The Tigers are also currently the No. 1 ranked team in Black College Nines’ HBCU baseball Top 10 “small school” poll for the 2024 season.
