
- This past week, we lost a huge advocator of HBCU baseball in Michael Coker. Not only was he a prolific writer for our website, Black College Nines, but also the visionary of and eventual founder of the Black College World Series.
- For many schools and conferences in both NCAA Division II and NAIA baseball, the season is winding down or has ended. A number of HBCUs will now be participating in conference tournaments.
- Huston-Tillotson University will be competing in the NAIA Red River Athletic Conference tournament beginning May 1st. To follow the tournament, go here.
- The NAIA’s HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) tournament begins April 30th featuring first round matchups Dillard University vs Voorhees University, Wilberforce University vs Talladega College, Southern University at New Orleans vs Stillman College, and Wiley University vs Rust College. - In the NCAA Division II Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), Edward Waters University, Savannah State University, Albany State University, Benedict College, Miles College, Tuskegee University and Lane College will be competing in the upcoming conference tournament beginning May 1st. - Harris-Stowe State University concluded its season winning four straight on the road against Crowleys Ridge College this past week.
- In the NCAA Division I Coastal Athletic Conference, North Carolina A&T remains in the hunt for the CAA tournament, which begins May 21st, with three conference series remaining (vs Campbell University, College of Charleston and league leading Northeastern University).
- The Southwestern Athletic Conference remains a tight battle for the eight-team league tournament which begins May 21st at historic Rickwood Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama. With three conference series remaining, Bethune-Cookman holds a two-game lead over the field with only three schools that seem to be out of contention to move on in the twelve-team loop.
