Today’s Black College Nines (BCN) podcast series features Voorhees head baseball coach Marcus Smith.
Hired on August 1, 2019, in addition to his baseball coaching duties, Marcus Smith serves as the Athletic Academic Enhancement Coordinator responsible for ensuring that all student-athletes receive their degrees in four years. What Coach Smith has done for student athletics in his first full season of coaching the Tigers is remarkable.
Smith was brought to Voorhees to restore the baseball program. A former head baseball coach at LeMoyne Owen College from 2015- 2018, Coach Smith held several assistant coaching positions including Morehouse College from 2013-2015, LeMoyne Owen from 2012-2013, Jonesboro High School of Atlanta Georgia in 2010, and at Clark Atlanta University from 2007-2009. Smith also included A stop as the head coach of the Tiger USA RBI Urban League organization in 2015. During the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball tournament Marcus Smith received the NCAA Division II SIAC Outstanding Tournament Coach Award.
The Albany State University graduate opens up about a myriad of the Voorhees baseball program achievements on the field and in the classroom where they received a Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
God Bless coach Smith! A real and genuine guy who really cares about the kids. I wish him much success.
