Black College Nines caught up with Florida Memorial University Head Baseball Coach Florentino Burgos during the Lions scheduled double header against Broward College. The Miami, Florida native is widely known and respected in the baseball community. His energy and enthusiasm mixed with his focus on player development will help FMU grow into a force as Burgos has set his sights on winning the Sun Conference, as a member, one of the toughest NAIA baseball conference.
Burgos played collegiately at Florida International University. As a scholar-athlete, Burgos was an All-Regional Team selection and NCAA D1 Regional Champion. Subsequent to his collegiate career, he signed a professional contract with the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League. After his playing days, he returned to Miami where he was the head coach at North Miami Beach Senior High and RBI Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities among underserved youth.
