North Carolina A&T’s Canyon Brown was drafted by the Kansas City Royals becoming the second Historically Black College and University (HBCU) player taken in the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft. He was selected in the 9th round, the (No. 257 overall pick).
Brown, during the 2024 season, batted .310 with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 6 home runs, with 49 runs batted in. During the 2024 season, he had a .492 slugging percentage to go along with a .414 on base percentage.
This past season, Brown recorded 407 putouts with a .979 fielding percentage. In 30 stolen base attempts against him, he caught 27 base stealers. Brown made Black College Nines’ HBCU Baseball All-Elite team in 2023 and 2024.
Brown is the second player from North Carolina A&T taken in the last two years. Last year Xavier Meachem was taken in the 2023 MLB draft by the Miami Marlins.
