Norfolk State University senior infielder/right-handed pitcher Danny Hosley has been named one of five finalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, announced today by the College Baseball Foundation.
Hosley has been a key part of the Spartans’ success this season, consistently contributing both at the plate and on the mound. While leading the team, with his .375 batting average, Hosley has 45 hits in 120 at-bats, with 8 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run and 23 runs batted in. He is 9-for-11 on the base paths.
On the mound, Hosley has appeared in 11 games, which includes 10 appearances as a starter. In 73.1 innings pitched, he owns a 2.95 earned run average, amongst leaders in the nation with six complete games and struck out 79 hitters. He has held opponents to a .206 batting average.
He’s just had a tremendous year. Hosley is the only HBCU Baseball “large school” player to be named a finalist for the award. He is joined on the list for the award by Garrett Delano of Mercer, Dylan Nedved of Iowa, Spencer Schwellenbach of Nebraska and Justin Campbell of Oklahoma State.
The John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award is named for the former Washington State University standout who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s and who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. The award will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this summer.
