North Carolina A&T baseball released its 2023 schedule on Monday. It includes a three-game series against an HBCU, three Power Five foes and a 27-game Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) slate. The Aggies will play in their third different conference in three years when they open CAA play at home inside World War Memorial Stadium on March 10 against the Towson Tigers.
Before they get there, the Aggies will open the season against an old friend, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (UMES). The two former Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) baseball members will start a three-day, three-game series on Feb. 17 to open the 2023 season. The Hawks baseball team will come to East Greensboro as members of the Northeastern Conference (NEC).
A&T, who left the Big South Conference after one season (2022), also has a few former Big South Conference mates on the schedule, starting with the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs. A&T and GWU will each get a home game against one another, beginning with the Aggies going to Boling Springs, N.C., on March 7. The Runnin’ Bulldogs will come to War Memorial on April 4.
The Big South’s High Point University Panthers come to #TheWar on April 12 before the teams face each other at Truist Park, home of the High Point Rockers minor league team, on April 18.
Davidson and A&T will also play a home and away with the Aggies going to Davidson on Feb. 21 before the Wildcats come to East Greensboro on March 28. The Aggies will also get crosstown rival UNC Greensboro twice. The Spartans will get a home game on March 14 before driving a few miles to give the Aggies a home game on March 21. Finally, the Aggies will have a single game against the Queens University of Charlotte Royals at War Memorial on April 25.
In addition to UMES, the Aggies will have a few other non-conference three-game series starting with a three-game set against Appalachian State, Feb. 24-26. The Aggies will play at home against the Mountaineers on Feb. 24 and 26 but head to Boone to face App State on Feb. 25. A few days later, the Aggies will host the Western Michigan Broncos, March 3-5.
A&T’s first game against a Power Five opponent in 2023 will take place on Feb. 28 against the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia, S.C.
The Aggies also go on the road to face the University of North Carolina Tar Heels on March 22 and North Carolina State on May 2. A&T has recent wins over the Gamecocks and the Tar Heels. They beat the Gamecocks 2-0 in 2018, and a year ago, they took down the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill 7-6.
In addition to playing CAA foe Towson at home for a three-game series, the Aggies also have home CAA three-game series against Hofstra (March 24-26), Monmouth (April 7-9), William & Mary (April 21-23) and College of Charleston (May 5-7).
On the road in the CAA, they will face Northeastern (March 17-19), UNC Wilmington (March 31-April 2), Delaware (April 14-16), Stony Brook (April 28-30) and Elon (May 12-14). The CAA Championship Baseball Tournament will take place May 24-26 in South Carolina.
The Aggies went 15-38 last season and 3-21 in the Big South but did secure some big-name wins over UNC, Davidson and Pitt.
