(Pompano Beach, Florida) It was announced today that Black College Championships, LLC will be presenting the second annual Black College World Series on May 11-15, 2022, once again in conjunction with the city of Montgomery, Alabama and the Montgomery Biscuits baseball organization.
The series will feature Historically Black College and University (HBCU) baseball teams from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and teams from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in competition to crown a black college national champion among the non-NCAA Division I baseball programs. The schools will be selected, by a polling committee, from the 30 HBCU “small school” programs playing NCAA Division II and NAIA baseball this season.
The tournament will bring an estimated 250 student-athletes to the city of Montgomery utilizing multiple hotels, restaurants, and shops throughout the nearly weeklong event. Montgomery has a rich history of baseball and no doubt the local community is just as excited as we are to be hosting the tournament.
“The opportunity to return to Montgomery was very attractive. Not only does it provide a dynamic experience for student-athletes and fans, but it also provides an economic opportunity for the city and the surrounding area”, said Black College Championships’ executive director, Michael Coker. “The city’s Riverwalk Stadium minor league baseball facility is an exciting venue for our national championships. We look forward to continuing a tradition of the Black College World Series and are excited as we prepare for the upcoming championships.”
Riverwalk Stadium is located downtown where fans will be exposed to other landmarks and attractions. It is located close to the Alabama River, which flows through downtown. The park is located just a few feet from an amphitheater on the banks of the river.
The Black College World Series is more than just earning bragging rights. It is special to the HBCU community, the student-athletes, coaches, and the thousands of fans expected in attendance. It puts a spotlight on the rich tradition of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and their ball playing student-athletes.
In the inaugural world series this past spring, Bluefield State College defeat Xavier University of Louisiana to claim the first Black College World Series.

Format: Two divisions – one bracket of NCAA Division II teams and one bracket of NAIA teams. Winners of each division face off in a one game playoff to determine a champion.

About The Montgomery Biscuits
The Montgomery Biscuits is a Minor League Baseball team based in Montgomery, Alabama. It is the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays and plays in the Double-A South. The team was founded in Orlando, Florida, in 1973 as the Orlando Twins, an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins in the Southern League. After remaining in the Minnesota minor league organization for 20 seasons, the team became an affiliate of the Chicago Cubs for four seasons and then the Seattle Mariners for one. In 1999, the Biscuits became an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, and they have remained in the organization ever since and became members of the Double-A South in 2021. Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium is the home of the Biscuits. The minor league baseball ballpark opened in 2004. Located in downtown Montgomery can host up to 7,000 people a night. The ballpark offers a riverfront area easily accessible from Riverwalk Stadium, 20 luxury suites, picnic areas along the third-base line, and the left-center-field line. The picnic area in the left-center field can accommodate up to 4,000 fans. The stadium also has a full bar called “The Club Car Bar”. The park has a children’s playground area located down the third baseline. The stadium scoreboard is a video board with a LED screen with instant replay.

I played NAIA at Cumberland University and my son played at Texas Southern so I am very familiar with this level of ball. I’m so excited to see some good baseball.
