Thirty-five days after former coach Carlos James announced via social media on May 28, 2024, that he was leaving Pine Bluff after 14 seasons, the Golden Lions have found their new head coach.
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Board of Trustees and Vice Chancellor of Intercollegiate Athletics approved the hiring of Logan Stout as the next head baseball coach this past Wednesday afternoon. Sources state Stout is joining the Golden Lions on a 5-year deal.
Stout is an outstanding coach, teacher, and competitor. He has had success evidenced by his many championships plus he’s had an impact on young men and he can have that same success at UAPB.
Stout inherits a team that last had a winning season in 2015. That year, UAPB was ineligible for postseason play due to NCAA sanctions from Academic Progress Rate penalties.
Stout is a developer of young men on and off the baseball diamond and a man whose values align with what’s expected of the next coach at UAPB.
According to sources, the university looked hard at a few other candidates, but the athletic department liked Stout and decided to bring him onboard to coach.
Now, he faces the challenge of making the Golden Lions competitive in the SWAC. His first step will be to build a coaching staff, as it is not known whether previous assistant coaches, Roger Mallison and Shane Youman-Osuoha, were retained or let go.
