After a coaching search initiated by the recent retirement of Mike Henson, Lane College has selected Daniel Stockdale as its new head baseball coach.
Stockdale, no stranger to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), had been the head coach at Albany State University for the past two years. While there, he led the program to the top of the Eastern Division of the SIAC and an NCAA Division II Regional Tournament appearance in 2015.
Prior to his stint as head coach at Albany State, Stockdale had been an assistant with NCAA Division I, Savannah State University. While at SSU, Coach Stockdale worked directly with catchers and assisted with the development of the hitters. The biggest key for Stockdale will be recruiting players to Jackson, Tennessee.
Stockdale served as head baseball coach at Pinecrest Academy, was an assistant coach and camp instructor at Temple University and has coaching experience with the Augusta Green Jackets, Single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants Major League baseball organization.
The Dragons of Lane College should be happy about the hiring of Stockdale, a proven winner who has been consistently successful over the last several years. He has done well with under-the-radar players, getting transfers and junior college players, as well as new recruits. In the past, he has recruited tough, hard-playing guys, leaving no stone unturned to find his players, which has include one ABCA/Rawlings All-American.
Black College Nines had the opportunity to speak with coach Stockdale after his recent hire to lead the Lane baseball program. Hear the interview.
