Jordan Haddaway (jr.) threw eight-and-a-third solid innings and Krew Bouldin drove in both runs to lead Delaware State to a 2-1 victory over Norfolk State in the finale of a four-game MEAC North series at Marty Miller Field today. The Hornets earned a split in the series with the win.
Haddaway, a Delaware Tech transfer, threw 8.1 innings, allowing just one run on seven singles while striking out four and walking two to earn his first victory as a Hornet.
Bouldin was two-for-four at the plate and drove both DSU runs.
Haddaway retired the first six NSU hitters in order before the Spartans scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the third.
Delaware State evened the score in the top of the fourth. Brady Daniels reached base on a strike out-passed ball with one out and Bouldin followed with a double down the third base line to score Daniels and tie the game at 1-1.
The Hornets pulled ahead when Trey Paige singled to lead off the sixth and later scored on a one-out single by Bouldin.
Haddaway allowed a walk in the Norfolk State sixth and two hits in the eighth, but kept the Spartans off the board. He set NSU down in order in the eighth to preserve the Hornets’ one-run lead heading into the ninth inning.
Haddaway was relieved by DSU closer Chandler Fitzgerald after giving up a single with one out in the Norfolk State ninth. Fitzgerald recorded the second out on a pop up and struck out the next batter to pick up his second save of the season.
The Hornets improved to 6-12 overall and 4-4 in the MEAC with the win.
