Jarvis Christian College opened its baseball season scattering ten hits helping to account for 10 runs in defeating Southwest Assemblies of God University (SAGU) 10-8 this past Tuesday afternoon in Waxahachie, Texas in a see saw battle between both schools.
Jarvis (1-0) scored five runs in the first three innings, after Southwest Assemblies plated the game’s first two runs, for a 5-2 advantage. In the bottom of the third inning, Southwest scored two more runs to close the gap to one run, then SAGU added two more runs in the fourth inning for a 6-5 lead.
Jarvis evened the game at 6-6 with another run in the fifth. SAGU would take the lead with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Jarvis would score three insurance runs in an eight inning late rally. Both teams would add one run apiece in the ninth as the Bulldogs were victorious in their season opener.
Freshmen led the way for the Bulldogs. Outfielder Yan Otero was 1 for 4 with a double, driving home 2 runs. first baseman Zeke Holder collected 2 hits, one being a home run and 3 runs batted in, and catcher Sean Rodriquez had 1 hit with 3 RBI’s.
Rust College started the 2021 season sweeping Southeastern Baptist College in doubleheader action by the score of 13-3 in game one and 8-4 in the second game to secure the sweep.
The Bearcats (2-0), in game one had a 16 hit attack and added 11 in the second game, scoring 21 total runs in the twin bill, while Southeastern Baptist plated 7 total runs in the two-game series.
During the sweep, Rust was led by Saul Gonzales’ 2 for 2 performance, scored 2 runs with a double and knocked in 4 runs. Dreylin Holmes was 4 for 6 with a double and 2 RBIs, Sieas Elliot had 3 hits, and 2 runs batted in, and Michah Sanders had a triple with 3 RBIs. Both Mark Hubbard and William Teague drove home 2 runs each.
Rust College’s game one starter, Cullen Odom, pick up his first win to start the 2021 season throwing 5.0 innings.
