The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has announced its Stopper of the Year award watch list, the award given annually to the top relief pitchers during the 2018 college baseball season.
The award is given to the nation’s top relief pitcher who has been excellent out of the bullpen in game winning or save appearance resulting in a team victory for his affords. The list has 41 players from NCAA Division I baseball playing schools. The Stopper of the Year Award was created in 2005 to honor college baseball’s top relief pitcher.
Jackson State’s Jose Tirado, one of the top pitchers in HBCU Baseball, is among the names listed with 24 appearances out of the bullpen while posting a 3.43 earned run average in 44.2 innings pitched, with 53 strikeouts and has collected 11 saves so far this season.
Finalists for the 2018 award will be announced on Wednesday, June 7. The winner will be revealed June 17 during the 2018 NCAA Division I College World Series.
