The Jackson State Tigers handed Alabama A&M a 14-3 loss in Friday night’s series opener in SWAC play.
With the help of a six hit and 12 run first inning, Jackson State quickly gained a 12-2 lead over the Bulldogs. Anthony Beccera was exceptional in his outing on the mound, working the remainder of the game with six consecutive scoreless innings to to help keep the Tigers 10-run lead.
In the fifth inning, back-to-back runs batted in by JSU helped put two more runs across the board to stretch the lead out to 14-3.
Jackson State went on to close out the contest in seven innings of play to improve to 12-6 overall and 7-0 in SWAC play.
JSU finished with 11 hits as a team while surrendering just three hits to A&M. Equon Smith led JSU with three hits in four at bats with two runs scored and a run driven in.
Chevy Dorris and Jatavious Melton had two hits each with Melton finishing with two runs driven in. Chenar Brown had a team high three runs batted in with one double and two runs scored.
Five Tigers managed two runs in the game as JSU finished with 14 runs in the outing. Beccera nearly threw the complete game, allowing just five hits, five strikeouts, and three runs in 6.9 innings.
