HBCU Teams Conference Baseball Player of the Week Honors

HBCU Teams Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week as announced this week by their respective conferences. Honors awarded to Pitcher Marcus Jones of Jarvis Christian College, Catcher Jesse Baker Edward Waters College and Pitcher Matt Holland Talladega College. Awards were given the week of January 26 – February 1, 2015.

MARCUS JONES OPENS SEASON AS RRAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Marcus Jones of Jarvis Christian College (Texas) was selected as the RRAC Pitcher of the Week for the week of Jan. 26-Feb. 1, 2015 the first awards of the 2015 baseball season. “Jones, a junior pitcher from Wichita Falls, Texas, posted a complete game shutout over Texas Wesleyan University in his first appearance of the season. He scattered six hits over seven innings while striking out five and walking none. The Bulldogs won 11-0 to clinch the three-game series against the Rams and start at 2-1”.

Jarvis Christian College “Lamarr Blanson and Scotty Lehman of Texas College were additional player of the week nominees. Texas College Kyle Randall was also nominated for pitcher of the week”.

 

EDWARD WATERS CATCHER JESSE BAKER IS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

EWC Jesse Baker Player of The Week

Edward Waters senior catcher Jesse Baker earns Player of the Week honors by batting .545 in the Tigers’ three game sweep of Ave Maria (Fla.).  In the series Baker had 6 hits in 11 at-bats, with a double and two home runs.  He drove in seven runs, scored seven more, walked twice and stole a base.  His slugging percentage was 1.182.

“Matt Holland, a 6-0 senior from Sylacauga, Ala., wins Pitcher of the Week honors after allowing one earned run in six innings for the Talladega Tornadoes in their win over Mobile.  Holland also struck out two and walked two”.
