Texas College split a doubleheader in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play against NAIA No. 21 ranked Texas A&M losing game one, 13-9 but winning 7-4 in game two.
In game two, in the bottom of the first inning, Texas Steers scored with five runs. Cameron Phelts struck out swinging, Nicholas Babineaux reached on a walk, Josiris Del Orbe Martinez singled through 2nd base and Babineaux advanced to second base. A wild pitch moved both Babineaux, Del Orbe Martinez to second and third base. Kyle Smith then reached first on a walk to load the bases. Hunter Babineaux singled scoring Nicholas Babineaux for the first run of the game. Emerson Shelvin was hit by a pitch scoring Del Orbe Martinez. Jonathan Riffle reached on a walk, Smith scored and Jimmie Lewis’s fielders choice infield ground ball platted Babineaux.
The Steers scored two more runs in the following inning to take a 7-0 lead. Both Nicholas Babineaux and Josiris Del Orbe Martinez singled, Kyle Smith singled to right center scoring Babineaux and Del Orbe Martinez scored on an outfield throwing error.
Texas A&M Texarkana got on the board in the third inning. Cade Thomason started the second inning off with a walk. LT Hawkins single to right center. Thomason scored on a throwing error and Hawkins moved to third base. George Gugino doubled to left field scoring Hawkins. Bobbly Kramer also doubled, scoring Gugino. Texas A&M Eagles also got one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough as Texas College won 7-4.
Texas starter Nathan Teichmer recorded the win, Samuel Galindo struck out four for the save. Texas College is ranked No. 9 in the latest Black College Nines HBCU Baseball “small school” Top 10 poll.
