Four Historically Black College and University (HBCU) baseball programs are being recognized by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in this weeks 2017 NCBWA Division II National Poll for February 28, for their play on the field.
West Virginia State University is currently ranked No. 9 in the NCBWA DII Regional Polls for the Atlantic Region. Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) conference foes Virginia State University and Winston Salem State University are also receiving votes in the Atlantic Region polls.
Last week polls previously listed West Virginia State at No. 8. Virginia State and Winston Salem State also receiving votes for week 2. NCBWA preseason regional Atlantic poll respectively listed Winston Salem State at No. 7 and West Virginia State No. 8.
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association also released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on February 13 which listed HBCU pitcher Terence Berry, Lincoln University(Pa.) who threw a no-hitter in his first start returning from Tommy John surgery.
Bethune Cookman University from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) is also receiving votes in the NCBWA Division I National Poll for February 27.
