Savannah State’s baseball team swept a three-game series from Salem University scoring 25 total runs during its mid-week and weekend action. The Tigers won a doubleheader, 12-2 and 10-4, to open the series then took a thrilling 3-2 win to seal the finale sweep to improve to 4-3 on the young season. Champion Robbins provided the big bat for Savannah State. In the three games he was 6 for 10, scored four runs, drove in five runs and stole three bases.
Albany State earned its first win of the season splitting a doubleheader, winning game one 8-6 over Shorter University on Saturday. Shorter took game two 8-4. In the Albany State win, freshmen Tyler Bullock (1-0), in 1.2 innings, allowed two hits and recorded three strikeouts.
In mid-week action, LeMoyne-Owen College swept SIAC conference rival Lane College, defeating the Dragons in a doubleheader 5-3 in game one and 7-5 in game two. LeMoyne-Owen’s Emari Mill (1-0) threw 7.0 innings, allowing six hits, of which three crossed the plate, while striking out 15 batters. In game two Mill recorded the save.
Virginia State earned a split Saturday as the Trojans were able to beat Lock Haven University 3-2, but then were shut out in the second game 3-0. VSU’s game one winner, Nicholas Woolfolk (1-0) threw 7.0 Innings, allowed 6 hits, gave up two earned runs with four strikeouts.
Bluefield State swept two different teams over the weekend. Big Blue defeated Lincoln University (PA) in doubleheader action 6-3 and 8-3, then posted an 8-7-win Saturday against Post University. On Sunday, Bluefield pounded Post by the score of 22-10.
In a doubleheader sweep, Miles College defeated former SIAC conference rival Stillman, pounded 20 hits in game one for a 23-1 victory and I n the second game, recorded a 3-0 win.
Kentucky State swept Voorhees, 11-4 and 15-2 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.
