As a rule of thumb, home games are huge in Historically Black College and University (HBCU) baseball and that’s true whether it’s a non-conference or a conference match-up. That said, scheduling a mid-week non-conference opponent helps strengthen schedules and builds confidence and cohesion heading into weekend action.
The unique aspect as it relates to the 2016 baseball season more so than last year, more HBCU baseball programs have scheduled a full slate of games against each other, making this season a very competitive year.
College baseball is really about four seasons – the non-conference schedule, the conference schedule, the postseason including the conference tournament and if it is really good, a national tournament.
Remember that conference as well as non-conference games bring out the best in a hungry team especially when playing at home. That is HBCU baseball.
