Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams and National Player of The Year, powered by Diamond, were announced this past Tuesday. Grambling State University pitcher Shemar Page was named to the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I All-American Second Team. Page was also a Black College Nines Elite Second Team Large School selection.
He was ranked second in the nation in strikeouts with 143. He led the SWAC where opponents only hit .193 off of him, while posting a 2.60 earned run average and an 8-5 record.
Early this past 2022 season the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) included Page on its weekly Dick Howser Trophy National Player of the Week awards given out every Tuesday during the season for NCAA Division I players. Page was named National Co-Pitchers of the Week for his no-hit, perfect game defeating SWAC conference rival Alcorn State 16-0.
He was the 31st pitcher since 1959 to throw a perfect game in Division I college baseball and the first to toss a perfect game since 2019 when East Carolina’s Jake Kuchmaner completed his on March 17th. In Shemar Page’s perfect game, he recorded a season and career-high 13 strikeouts on the season.
