For the first time in history, four Historically Black College and University (HBCU) baseball programs have received votes at any national level at the same time in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 30 Poll as announced by the publication. Alabama State, Coppin State, North Carolina A&T and Mississippi Valley State jump in the NCAA Division I poll receiving votes.
The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Poll is released Monday afternoon during the entire collegiate baseball season. The poll only considered games played during mid-week through Sunday.
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has two teams representing the conference, Coppin State Eagles from the Northern Division and North Carolina A&T Aggies from the Southern Division.
Coppin State finished the week going 2-1, including a series win defeating Albany this past weekend. Their record stands at 5-2.
North Carolina A&T completed the week 2-1 with games at No. 5 North Carolina Tar Heels and a series sweep of Northern Kentucky. NC A&T has a 5-1 record.
Alabama State went 3-0 after a sweep of Purdue Fort Wayne over the weekend. The Hornets overall record is 5-1.
Mississippi Valley State has not played its first game (0-0), but opens the season February 26 visiting Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark.
The 2019 poll voters come from among 35 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation.
