Post season awards continue to pour in for HBCU Baseball players. The American Baseball Coaches Association, along with Rawlings Sporting Goods Company (ABCA/Rawlings), presented its 2019 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Region teams for the eight regions across the country. The regional first and second teams are voted on by members of the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee.
Five players from three HBCU Baseball programs from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) were selected on the NCAA Division I Central and East All-Region First and Second Team. Alabama State outfielders Yamil Pagan was a first team selection along with Southern University’s Javeyan Williams. Second team members include Alabama State catcher Santiago Garcia, Delaware State Garrett Lawson and Southern third baseman Tyler LaPorte.
Pagan batted .341 with 4 doubles, 4 triples and 14 home runs, while driving in 52 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.
Williams had a .388 batting average, with 9 doubles, 7 triples, 4 home runs, 41 runs driven in and 26 stolen bases in 26 attempts.
Garcia hit .328, with 16 doubles, 9 home runs and 63 runs batted in.
Lawson in 81.0 innings pitched, (7-4) 1.89 earned run average with 100 strikeouts.
LaPorte batting .389 with 17 doubles, 5 triples, 64 runs driven in and 21 stolen bases.
ABCA/Rawlings will announce it’s NCAA Div. I All-Americans on Saturday, June 15, finalists for the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I Gold Glove Team will be announced June 17, and the Gold Glove winners in all divisions will be announced on June 19.
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the organization for collegiate baseball coaches with over 11,000 members that represent all 50 states and 23 countries which includes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth.
