Former Winston Salem State University baseball player Jayson Baytop sign a Independent League professional contract with the Trinidad Triggers of the Pecos League. Baytop was one of the top players for the Rams last season, and among the top hitters on the team and in the Central Intercollegiate Association (CIAA) conference.
Baytop, for the Rams batting average of .353, 4HRs and 34 RBIs, also had an impressive 26 stolen bases, tops in the conference this past season. Prior to Joining WSSU to complete his senior season, Baytop was receiving national spotlight from HERO Sports Preseason 2016 D2 College Baseball All-America Team for conference foe St. Augustine’s University as a three year starter before transferring to Winston Salem State.
Baytop becomes the third former HBCU baseball player to sign with Trinidad Triggers. Former Jarvis Christian College Javion Randle and Wiley College baseball player Erick Magee expected to be ready opening day.
