It has been rumored that Alcorn State could be interested in former Stephen F. Austin baseball head coach Johnny Cardenas as its next baseball coach. However, as far as we know, no direct contact between the two has been made.
Reggie Williams was relieved of his duties after 3 years, and sources have stated that this would be a big hire if they could get Cardenas.
Cardenas announced his retirement after spending 16 seasons at the helm of the Stephen A. Austin baseball program, effective July 31, 2024.
In his 16 seasons as head coach at SFA, Cardenas recorded 293 wins with three seasons having won 30 or more games. Cardenas has coached 13 of the program’s Major League Draft picks during his time as head coach and assistant coach.
