Former Edward Waters College All-American catcher Jesse Baker recently signed a pro contract to play professional baseball with the Tucson (Arizona) Saquaros of the Pecos League, which is one of a number of independent baseball leagues across the nation. The Saquaros play home games at Kino Sports Complex.
Baker, in 2015 was considered by many Major League scouts to be one of the best college catchers in the country, However, Edward Waters’ first baseball All-American was not drafted by any of the 32 Major League teams during the 2015 MLB amateur draft.
Since Tucson’s opening day on May 19th, Baker has played in 12 of the team’s first 15 games as the regular catcher. At the plate, he has a .395 average, 13 runs, 15 hits, two doubles, one triple, one home run with eight runs batted in.
“The EWC Tigers are thrilled for Baker,” said head coach Reginald Johnson.
