Florida A&M baseball will head to the Bayou to begin the 2022 season in the Annual Andre Dawson Classic. The Rattlers will take on Prairie View A&M on February 18 at 4 p.m. Eastern, Alabama State on February 19 at 7 p.m. Eastern, and Southern University on February 20 at noon. The Contest against Alabama State will broadcast on MLB Network.
The Classic will feature seven HBCU programs, with a slate of games the weekend of February 18th-20th in New Orleans, Louisiana.
“We are excited to begin the 2022 season in New Orleans playing in the Andre Dawson Classic!” said head coach Jamey Shouppe. “For our FAMU baseball program, this is the perfect way to kick off our inaugural season in the SWAC by playing against other SWAC opponents in a tournament hosted by Major League Baseball and named after a FAMU great and Hall of Fame Player, Andre Dawson!
“We couldn’t ask for a better way to begin the season! Our coaches and players are anxious to take the field!”
The Rattler’s are coming off a 22-34 (15-13) record in their final season in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Heading into their first season in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), FAMU was predicted to finish third in the Eastern Divison. Rattlers’ senior right fielder, LJ Bryant, received the team’s lone SWAC preseason honor as he was named to the All-SWAC Baseball Second Team.
