Fall Baseball Report: Texas Southern University

Coming off a SWAC Western Division championship and coach of the year nod, head coach Michael Robertson and his Texas Southern Tigers baseball team is looking to build from that for the 2025 season.

Despite losing some key pieces from the 2024 season, Coach Robertson and his staff have added lots of depth to its 2025 roster.

Throughout the fall season, the Tigers worked to build some team chemistry and closely evaluated newcomers as well as some returners who will be looked upon to step up and take on larger roles.

Infielder Jaden Jones is primed to build on a strong 2024 campaign with newcomers Bryce Hughes, Daylon Carleton, and Evan Joubert looking to join Jones as players who could earn All-SWAC honors for the 2025 season.

On the pitching side of things, Texas Southern doesn’t return much experience to their staff. Dalton Alford, Isaac Garcia, and James Malone return with the most experience from last season. There are quite a few newcomers the Tigers will be relying upon on the mound. Transfers Calvin McClendon, and Kewan Braziel look to eat up some innings along with quite a few JUCO transfers (Leeroy Tavarez, Justin Mays, Jace Maynard, and Josh Prieto). Freshmen Collin Dennis, DJ Medina, and Bubba Moya showed some promise on the mound, as well, during the fall season and both can log lots of innings for the Tigers pitching staff in 2025. Not to mention, Moya has also been very productive at the plate and can break the Tigers line-up as a true two-way player.

There were a lot of bright spots during the fall season for Coach Robertson and his team defensively, offensively, as well as pitching. However, there are still a few questions that need to be answered before the Tigers open up the season on February 14, 2025, against the Southern Jaguars at the Cactus Jack HBCU Baseball Classic in Houston Texas.
