Fall Baseball Report: Coppin State University

According to Coppin State baseball head coach Sherman Reed, the 2024 fall season consisted of a lot of new faces and talented players battling for many open positions.

The large majority of the 2024 recruiting class consisted of four-year and junior college experienced transfers. The three mainstays are MLB Swingman Classic participate CF Sam Nieves (5th yr senior), leading 2024 hitter LF Anthony Divittorio (grad student), and starting 2B Daniel Moore (senior). Also, returning is outfielder junior Bryce Thompson who had a breakout fall season tying for third in the team hitting at .333. Expecting to take a larger role at the catcher position in 2025 is returning player, junior Jayden Asencio who also batted .333 in the fall.

The top two newcomers were junior college transfer infielder Indy Anderson who batted .440 this fall to lead the team, and junior college transfer utility player Gavin Grutzmacher, who finished second this fall in team hitting with a .392 batting average.

The large majority of the young, talented 2024 pitching staff returns, highlighted by Justin Ritz, Brandon Stephens, Reagan Rivera, Kaden Straily, Jackson Montgomery, Michael Matthews, and Jaedin Hurd. Projected late inning stopper, junior Justin Ritz dominated in the fall, leading the staff in almost all categories. Under new pitching coach, seven-year Major League Baseball veteran pitcher, Wayne Franklin, the overall fall pitching performances were vastly improved.
