Fall Baseball Report: Texas College

Texas College head baseball coach Jarrail Jackson talks about changes and progress for the fall ball scrimmage discussing the changes made over the offseason and previewing the coming 2025 Steer baseball season.

Coach Jackson stated “My focus this fall was to get the players introduced and acclimated to a change of environment. This started with 5 AM workouts three times a week.  This is something that I have brought over from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and it showed me and Coach Jackson who really wanted to be here at Texas College.”

The early morning workouts had an immediate impact. Jackson stated “Then once we had our 5 AM schedule down, we started with individual practices (Pitchers/Catchers, Infield, Outfield). This is the best way to give our players the most efficient one-on-one time that was obtainable. Individuals doing the small things right and crafting their skills before team practices was implemented greatly needed.”

According to Jackson “Our team practices consist of developing offensive and defensive situations, reviewing sign systems, getting as much repetitions as we possibly could. Another focus was to get our players as many at-bats and game time as possible. This was achieved with inter-squads and a couple of scrimmages against local colleges.”

The biggest takeaway from fall ball was team chemistry.

“To wrap up the four we concluded with our inaugural fall World Series. Some players that stood out and had a great fall season would include Nick Mooney (JR | Little Elm, Texas), Miguel Martinez (FR | Edinburg, Texas), Robert Peterson (JR | Castroville, Texas), GiBrant Feliciano (JR | San Antonio, Texas) and returner Jude Flores (SO | Houston, Texas).”

Assistant coach Damien Ovalle stated, “Looking back at the fall, Coach Jackson and I are very confident in the team this year to go out and compete day in and day out, showing that Texas College is a baseball team that is hungry and ready to prove a point.”
