Savannah State head coach Carlton Hardy and his coaching staff welcome a talented recruiting class onto campus along with a veteran lineup. The Tigers are poised to win the SIAC and appear in a NCAA Division II regional and the Black College World Series under the guidance of Hardy.
Savannah State completed its five week fall practice schedule a couple of weeks ago. Hardy is very pleased with the newcomers they were able to bring in this semester. They bring a different kind of energy to the program with their enthusiasm and willingness to learn. A good mixture of returnees and newcomers jelled pretty well during the fall practice season. According to Coach Hardy, “some of our newcomers are making their presence known by forcing themselves into the lineup as well as our pitching staff.”
Having lost some big pieces from last year, the 2024 lineup will be fairly new as they return three starters from last season’s lineup. As stated above, Hardy is “excited about both the transfers and freshmen who have shown the ability to make an impact in the lineup on both sides of the baseball.”
The Tigers pitching staff returns two of its weekend starters. The influx of newcomers has made the staff stronger with their ability to attack the strike zone with quality pitches.
The coaching staff is definitely excited about the 2024 campaign. A lot of teaching in the fall to get the guys to buy into the culture at Savannah State and improve on last season’s 33-14 overall record which included a 25-7 conference mark.
