There will be plenty of competition for the North Carolina A&T baseball team to start the 2023 season. This will be the Aggies first year in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) conference and it will be the program’s third conference in three years. The former MEAC and Big South Conference member has traveled down a unique road, and is excited for its transition to the CAA.
The move is a big step forward for the baseball program with an eye towards increasing competition. This is great for Aggie Nation. The prospect of becoming a big mid-major athletics department takes a step forward starting in the 2023 school year.
NC A&T added several JUCO transfers. The highly rated players out of the JUCO market include Luis Espinal 3B of Miami Dade, Justin Poris RHP of Catawba Valley Community College (was injured last year, but has a 90-91 arm), Ethan Snyder RHP of Louisburg, Coley Kilpatrick RHP of Brunswick CC, Trent Simmons RHP of Florence Darlington, and Tre Williams 2B/RHP of Florence Darlington.
NC A&T picked up two exciting transfers in Johnathan Henry RHP from Albany St and Luke Brown RHP from Austin Peay. Both are highly rated and will be key contributors in 2023.
Returning position players are outfielders Camden Jackson, TJ Ash, Cameran Brantley, and Shemar Dalton. Top catchers are Canyon Brown and Chet Sikes. Infielders include Cort Maynard and Sabin Roane. Pitchers Jaheim Brown and Daniel Carter also return. The Aggies expect Xavier Meachem to be a draft arm this year. His fastball has been up to 97mph and usually sits around 95mph. His spin rate is exceptional on all pitches and he is receiving a large amount of pro interest.
Freshmen impact players include pitchers Evan Hart and Darius Robinson, and catcher Nick Lundquest.
North Carolina A&T is very excited about the transition to the CAA. They will be the only NCAA Division I HBCU playing baseball program in a non-HBCU conference. It will be challenging and exciting competition.
