The Miles College baseball team had a very productive fall. Returning 6 starters from last year’s team with the addition of some talented freshman and junior college transfers there was a lot of competition in key positions. Also, with the addition of 2 new assistant coaches (Judson McKinney and Ethan Riley), the Golden Bears were able to get a lot of things accomplished.
Pitching and defense will be key to the Golden Bears’ season. Nick Copen, first team all-conference pitcher and SIAC Utility Player of the Year returns for his senior season. All-conference and Relief Pitcher of the Year Camden Matthews, who led the SIAC in saves last year, also returns.
Brandon Leroy, first team all-conference catcher, Jordan Pearson, Auston Brewer, and Kolby King all return for senior campaigns.
Key newcomers will be Casey Threats (transfer shortstop from the University of San Fransisco), Jayson Wood (transfer pitcher from Marion Military Academy), Gavin Millians (transfer pitcher and outfielder from Shorter University), and Walton Thompson (transfer utility player from Lane College)
Key freshmen will be Trace Spann, Ta’Maz Barnes, Benen Fernandez, and Jayvionne Williams. All will play key roles this season for the Golden Bears.
With a big senior class and some key transfers, Miles College baseball looks forward to a big season. They’ve have added more arms the pitching staff and more speed to a team that finished 3rd in the nation in stolen bases.
Trace Spann is going to be a beast.
