Fall Ball Report: Experience is Key for Kentucky State in 2022

Experience is the key for Kentucky State in 2022. The Thorobreds return multi-year starters at nearly every position on the field, to go along with several talented newcomers. Returning on the mound will be 2019 KIAC Pitcher of the Year Brady Bibbs, along with proven performing returners Dashawn Hureskin, Solomon Reed, Johnathan Morris, and Dom Lawson. Incoming four-year transfers Jalen Anderson and Mike Pedraza will compete for starting spots, while juco transfer Tyler Anderson will provide bullpen depth.

Catching duties will be shared between seniors Roby Schank and Jared Pierce, along with sophomores John Higdon and Connor Purvis. The infield will feature Boo Thompson at first base, Jace Wilson at second base, Aram Kumar at shortstop and Josh Graves and Trey Walker manning third base. Experienced returners Byron Famble and Marshall Chapman will provide depth in the infield, along with talented freshmen Tre Brown and Daniel Moore as well.

The ‘Breds feature a wealth of returners in the outfield, with centerfield featuring a combination of Jared Pierce, Antonio Chambers and Kelton Saylor. Collier Higgs returns as the starter in left field, with Dom Lawson and Brennon Williams platooning in right field.  Freshman Chase Zipper and junior Keyshawn White will also work into the outfield rotation.

Head Coach Rob Henry is looking forward to a full 2022 season after pandemic-shortened seasons in 2020 and 2021. “The pandemic changed things in so many ways for so many people, and our program was no different. Our roster is filled with players who have been here three and four years. We’re ready to get after it for a full year after being limited the last two seasons and we’re excited to see what the 2022 season has in store for us!”
