Edward Waters College Tough Non-Conference Slate Highlights 2021 Baseball Season

Edward Waters head coach Reginald Johnson is planning an aggressive Tigers baseball schedule for 2021. Johnson believes one of the best ways to prepare his team for the rigors of playing a tough non-conference schedule is to face off with stiff competition early on in the season. According to Coach Johnson, the Tigers will have its toughest slate of early out-of-conference games to date in opening the 2021 season.

EWC will open its 2021 season visiting No.15 Keiser University, ranked in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 Coaches poll on January 29-30th in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Keiser has made five NAIA National Tournament appearances in the last six seasons. The Seahawks last post season appearance was a 2019 trip to the tournament opening round. COVID-19 then shut down the 2020 season.

Coach Johnson has always been a big believer in scheduling tough non-conference games to start the season. The tougher the games are early on, the better prepared his teams will be for the grinds throughout the season.

Outside of playing a four-game series against Keiser every year to open the 2021 season, the Tigers have played some stiff competition in the out of conference during Johnson’s tenure. While some of the names might not jump out and grab you, they have played some solid top ranked baseball squads.

Edward Waters’ first eleven games are against SUN Conference opponents, the top ranked conference in the NAIA.

Reginald Johnson’s squad will be competing against respected powerhouse programs ranked in the NAIA Top 25, such as No.1 Southeastern University (four-game home and home series), visit No.3 Georgia Gwinnett College (three-game series), No.15 Keiser and play small college ranked Warner University (two-game weekend series), as well as multiple home-and-home sets with the University of South Carolina – Beaufort.

This Tiger baseball team and its loyal fans are still reeling after having most of the 2020 season canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now they have something to look forward to, and something that will make opening day this season a little more exciting.

According to Johnson, there’s a lot to look forward to in 2021. And while it may be exciting, he is quick to point out that it’s also going to be tough sledding. “It’s going to be an unbelievable challenge for our team and our program before we get into the season” Johnson said. “And we’re excited about it. Our guys best be ready to play.”
