Two Prairie View A&M players were named to the 2022 baseball preseason All-SWAC teams announced Tuesday by the league’s office.
Graduate student Demarie’ Smith was tabbed as a second team outfielder, while sophomore Victor Mendoza received second team nods as a pitcher.
Smith finished the 2021 season as one of the Panthers ranked among the team’s best batters, hitting .314 with 27 hits and 13 runs scored. He drove in 16 RBI, while posting a .956 fielding percentage in the outfield.
Mendoza struck out 33 batters in six appearances, earning a 3-0 overall record.
The Panthers will open their season in the MLB Andre Dawson Classic, February 18 – 20 when they face Florida A&M for a 2 p.m. start.
