Delaware State junior infielder Trey Paige added to his list of achievements after he hit for the cycle in Sunday’s series finale against The Citadel.
Paige, who went four-for-five on the day with three RBIs, started off his historic day with a double into the gap at right center in his first at-bat. He checked off the single after laying a hit through the right side that would also allow Chris Amparo to advance to third and get into scoring position after drawing a free base to kick off the third inning. Paige then ripped a triple on a 1-2 count again into the gap at right center in the top of the fourth. He finished the cycle in the eighth inning after belting a 2-run home run over the right field wall allowing catcher Mason Brewer to score as well.
Wilfredo Mendez collected an RBI double in the top of the first inning that brought Paige home to give Delaware State the early lead. The Citadel responded in the bottom half of the second with a six-run frame for a 6-1 advantage through two complete innings.
A four-run third inning and a Jancarlos Colon RBI-ground out brought the game back to even strength at 6 through the top half of the fourth inning.
The Bulldogs grabbed the lead back in their half of the fourth and did not concede for the remainder of the game.
Offensively, Mendez joined Paige in recording a multi-hit game while Colon and Brady Daniels notched a pair of RBI performances.
