Evan Harris threw 132 pitches and struck out 11 batters Saturday afternoon at Marty L. Miller Field as Delaware State defeated Coppin State 4-3 to force the if-necessary game of the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Baseball Championship.
First pitch for the winner-take-all contest is 3:30 p.m.
Top-seeded Delaware State (25-22) is seeking its first MEAC baseball championship since 1989, while the second-seeded Eagles (23-28) are looking for their first ring since 1995.
Robert Trujillo had an RBI groundout in the first and an RBI single in the second, and Miguel Rivera added an RBI double in the fifth before a Trey Paige sac fly put the Hornets up 4-1.
Corey Miley and Mike Dorcean each drove in runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3, but that was all the Eagles could muster.
Jordan King was 2-for-4 at the plate for the Hornets, while Trujillo led the way with two RBIs.
Harris picked up his MEAC lead-tying sixth win of the seson, going the distance.
