Daniel Stockdale Resigns As Lane College Baseball Coach

Lane College will have a new baseball coach next season now that head coach Daniel Stockdale, who was hired this past May, has resigned from the position.

Stockdale resignation comes as a shock to both Lane and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

Coach Stockdale was considered a valuable member of the SIAC conference and was expected to turn the baseball program around as the athletic department committed to build Dragons baseball.

Before his arrival to Lane, Stockdale had been the head coach at Albany State University for the past two years, leading ASU to the NCAA Division II Regional playoffs in 2015. Prior to Albany State, Stockdale was an assistant with Savannah State University.

The baseball program was not able to get the higher caliber of student-athletes Stockdale pushed for. While being a great academic institution and a great place to go to school, Lane could not provide any of the top recruits the opportunity, which made recruitment difficult.

Daniel Stockdale informed Lane administrators of his decision to step down after replacing former coach Mike Henson, who announced his retirement at the end of the 2016 season. Stockdale has pursued other opportunities and has been hired as an assistant women’s softball coach at the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee.

Stanley Stubbs, who coached Texas College this past 2016 season is expected to be named head coach at Lane.
