Coppin State’s baseball team was picked by D1Baseball.com to win the MEAC North and the Eagles had several players listed among the league’s top MLB Draft prospects, the website announced last week.
In the Northern Division, Coppin was picked first, followed by Norfolk State and Delaware State, while North Carolina A&T is predicted to win the South, with NC Central and Florida A&M just behind.
Marcos Castillo was one of the Eagles’ league-high three top ten prospects for the 2021 Draft, coming in at the fourth spot within the MEAC. Bradley Tuttle and Aaron Rea were selected sixth and seventh, respectively.
D1Baseball.com is very impressed with Coppin’s young talent as Rashad Ruff, Giovanni Canales and Eddie Javier were picked as three of the MEAC’s top five prospects for the 2022 Draft. Ruff was picked first, followed by Canales at number two and Javier fourth.
Sebastien Sarabia and Darren Hagan were named among the top first-year freshman with Sarabia taking the third spot, and Hagan seventh.
The website picked North Carolina A&T to represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament.
Coppin is set to open the season on Saturday, February 20 at Navy.
Yeah, Coppin is pretty talented. If they stay away from injuries and avoid COVID problems they may make some noise this year. Go Eagles!
